The Mac operating system is intuitive and user friendly but in my opinion there are a few improvements that help you get the most out of your Mac.

Mac Tweaks for Ease of Use

#1 – Auto Start – Auto start determines which apps are loaded when you start your computer and each of those apps takes up memory space.

To adjust which programs are on auto start go to the login items tab, there you can disable apps that you do not need to auto start on login.

#2 – The Tab Key – The Tab key can be used to quickly move between controls and windows on the screen.

To enable the Tab key you will need to go to system preferences and then to the keyboard and mouse area. Once there just click on the all controls radio button and you are done.

#3 – Custom Icons – One great way of making life easier on your Mac is to allow custom icons for different components.

You can find Icon Composer software on your OS x install disk or it can be downloaded from Apple.

#4 – The Path Button – One of the most helpful Mac Tweaks I know.

Drag and drop the Path button. This will help you see the chain of command that your apps use. Believe me knowing the path that your applications use can be very helpful in many situations.

#5 – Shortcuts – Did you know that you could add app shortcuts to both the Finder toolbar and the sidebar too?

Simply drag and drop the applications that you use the most to either and you will be able to find them quickly and easily when needed. With your application shortcuts on the Finder and Sidebars maximizing productivity will be easy.
